Education Resources

In alignment with our mission to produce more contextually relevant content for educators in the Middle East, the MEPLI program produces education resources developed in collaboration with HGSE faculty, MEPLI Fellows, and educational organizations in the region.  This work allows HGSE to expand its reach and impact in the region, connecting educators from across the Arabic speaking world to the high-quality and cutting edge work of our institution.

Usable Knowledge

Usable Knowledge is a digital publication based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education that connects research to practice by publishing content that responds to educators’ pressing challenges.

The MEPLI program works with our Fellows and other regional educational experts to translate Usable Knowledge into Arabic in order to be accessible to educators and community members across the Arabic speaking world.

Casebook

The MEPLI program co-published Dilemmas in Schools: A Casebook for Educators with the Queen Rania Teacher Academy in February, 2021, edited by Dr. Katherine Merseth. The volume of 17 cases written by teachers in Jordans outline challenges that new and experienced teachers face in the classroom on topics such as school-community relations, behavior management, and resistance to coaching. It is a valuable tool to be used for pre-service and in-service teacher training and is available to download for free in both English and Arabic.

Costly Change?

In this case, new school principal Mirvat is confronted with a dilemma between a novice and experienced teacher as they disagree on implementing more modern teaching strategies in the classroom.

“The discussion of cases encourages the development of collaborative problem-solving skills and provides an opportunity to learn from one’s peers. The cases in this book represent and contribute to the universality of practitioner knowledge and practice.”
